Up Close and Personal

Moment of honesty: I contemplated calling this post "Up Close and Purr-sonal."

I typed it out, and then gagged a little when I read it back in my head. I may write a blog about my cat, but I still have some dignity. I have boundaries and they don't extend to puns incorporating the word "purr."

But this post isn't about my body's physical response to "purr" puns. This post is about how, when I don't have anything better to do when I have exhausted every other form of procrastination, I like to get all up in Kitten's grill.

So please enjoy these incredibly close-up shots of Kitten, because he sure didn't.

My In-Bread Cat, Kitten

FIRST, let me start by saying that Kitten is doing much better!

Covering his pills in butter actually worked. He finished all of his medication last week and seems to be in pretty good health.

Now let me get to what I really want to talk about: Breading.

Breading cats has become a (relatively) recent internet craze, and being the fan of bandwagons that I am, I thought I should give it a go.

If you haven't heard of "breading", I would suggest a quick Google search of the term.

To put it simply (or more aptly, to put it in a way that channels Dr. Seuss): You cut a hole in a bread and then slide said bread on a cats head.

It was too difficult for me to choose my favourites, so here are all of the pictures I took of my attempt to "bread" Kitten.

Enjoy!

The fact that the bread was covering his whiskers seemed to have temporarily thrown off his balance.

He was unimpressed.

Then I decided to pull out some of his face-fur.

Also unimpressed.

Well, I hope you enjoyed that, because I can guarantee that Kitten did not... except for that brief movement, before I forced his flat little face though the bread, when he thought that he might actually get to eat the bread. Oh how wrong he was.

What is up with Kitten's Whiskers?

Have you every noticed how absurd Kitten's whiskers are?

No? Let me demonstrate:
Here, we have a couple of great specimens. At the top, we have a whisker growing vertically out of the top of Kitten's head, followed by a long and arching whisker, growing almost horizontally out of the top of Kitten's head. At the bottom, we have a grouping of whiskers that have become displaced, seemingly due to their sheer volume.

Aside from the fact that I have absolutely zero knowledge as to what is happening in this picture, it proves to be a fine example of the scope of Kitten's whiskerage.

In this one, you are able to view both the length and arch of Kitten's eyebrow whiskers.

Here, Kitten's whiskers have literally taken over the focus of the picture.

I saved this one for last, because I think it catches the best of all of Kitten's whisker abnormalities.
(Also, he can't quite close his mouth.)

Do you see what I mean?

The Price of Flat

Have you ever notice how flat things just cost more?  ...Flat screens. Flat irons for flat hair. Flat stomaches and flat abs. Flattops (okay maybe not that one).

Flat, flat, flat. Flat things cost money and Kitten's face was no exception. This facial phenomenon cost Boyfriend a pretty penny, but while there were some snoutier kittlings in the litter, a schnoz was not something we were looking for on a cat. I am sure you didn't need me to point out that Kitten is lacking in profile, but I thought you might enjoy a closer look at Kitten's pancake pout.
